ItemAGING WITH CHOICE: PREFERENCES FOR A RETIREMENT HOME OF AN ELDERLY CLIENT(Ateneo de Davao University, 2020-04) Casintahan, Lilibeth BuagasThis study was conducted to identify the Client’s Preferences for a Retirement Home in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines. There were six (6) identified attributes for a retirement home after the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) from the selected five (5) clients from a sample retirement home at Co Su Gian, Home for the Aged, Davao City, Philippines. The following six (6) attributes were as follows; location, cost per month, nurse-patient relationship, facilities, food, and nurse/caregiver. Conjoint Analysis method was used to identify the relative importance and the utility values of each attribute. The study utilizes both the descriptive and causal methods of research. The three hundred thirty-four (334) respondents of the study were the government and private officials and employees of Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines, who were 50 years old and over. The respondents for the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were selected through a purposive sampling technique, and a stratified sampling technique was used for the primary survey, using Slovin’s formula. The design used was a survey method, with twenty (20) hypothetical designs for retirement homes generated with the use of Conjoint Analysis Statistical Software. The findings had shown that all six (6) attributes have contributed to the total utility for retirement homes. And at the aggregate levels, cost per month was the most important, and the location was the least important. The study revealed that participant one would accept any location for a retirement home as long as the cost per month is affordable. Whereas participants number two (2), four (4) and five (5), were willing to pay whatever the cost per month was for as long as the professional nurse was the one who will care and assist them in their daily care. While participant number three (3), was not particular with food as long as the facilities were excellent. However, the result of the simulation of the study that the utility value of the retirement home will lower down when the cost per month of the retirement home from 25, 000 pesos, which was the most preferred, to 50, 000 pesos. And by changing the level of location, which was the least important, to close to family, will also decrease the total utility of the retirement homes. The results explained that although the overall result cost per month was the most important attribute and the location was the least important, but it was important to capture the preferences of the individual respondents. The study has shown that there was a significant difference in the overall result of the Clients’ Preferences for Retirement Home when group according to educational attainment. The preferences of those with masters and doctorate degrees had shown significantly higher than those who had just attended college or graduated in high school. And there was no significant difference in the Clients’ Preferences for Retirement Homes when respondents were grouped according to age, sex, religion, marital status, monthly income, living, and health condition.

ItemCompliance of clinical instructors in nursing schools to Republic Act 7164(School of Nursing, Ateneo de Davao University, 2000-03) Cadeña, Melinda GranadaAbstract: Republic Act (RA) 7164 known as The Philippine Nursing Act of 1991 includes provision requiring faculty members in schools of nursing to be masters degree holder. This is intended to raise the standard of teaching efficiency to bring about effective and wholesome learning. To determine the compliance of clinical instructors in nursing schools to RA 7164 this descriptive and correlational study was conducted. Specifically, it attempts to find out the relationship between the learner, teacher and environment to the compliance. All part-time and full-time clinical instructors who are not masters degree holder and employed for school year 1999-2000 in the five colleges of nursing in Davao City namely Brokenshire College, Davao Doctors College, Mindanao Medical Foundation College, San Pedro College and Tecarro College Foundation, Inc. were provided with a pretested questionnaire. After subjecting the data to simple percentage, mean, weighted mean and multiple logistic regression, it was found out that only twenty (20) out of the total (53) clinical instructors complied with the mandate. Among the different variables, only age and employer's support were related to compliance. Not statistically significant were factors such as civil status, monthly income, employment status, number of dependent household members, length of service, other roles taken aside from clinical instruction, level of awareness, degree of motivation, graduate school teachers' quality and quantity, phsical set-up and support of family. This study recommends that clinical instructors be encouraged to enroll early in life since younger age group may have lesser responsibilities and more time available to pursue graduate studies. Schools should support their clinical instructors financially as their present average monthly income cannot meet their needs for masteral study.

ItemDEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A BLUEPRINT FOR CLINICAL TEACHING IN UNDERGRADUATE MENTAL HEALTH AND PSYCHIATRIC NURSING(Holy Angel University, 2021) Gabriel, DenmarkThe coronavirus pandemic has led to the drastic transformation of the delivery of instruction from the traditional in-person instruction to virtual platforms which in turn challenged instructional designers to create learning materials that are suitable for online distance learning. In this paper, a teaching and learning blueprint guided by the principles of constructivism and Gagne’s nine events of instruction was designed based on the first three stages of the ADDIE instructional design model. The blueprint was evaluated by three subject matter experts that revealed an I-CVI of 1.00, an S-CVI/Ave of 1.00, and an interrater reliability index of 80% through percent agreement. With the results as basis, the blueprint has an excellent content validity and an acceptable interrater reliability index. This should provide evidence to the effectivity of the ADDIE instructional design model as a guide in the creation of a teaching and learning blueprint that is valid and reliable.

Specifically, this study aspired to determine the volume of milk produced after the early breast hand pumping by the experimental group of postpartum mothers. Secondly, to determine the volume of milk produced by the control group of postpartum mothers on the first to fourth day postpartum. Lastly, to determine if there is a significant difference in the volume of milk produced between the experimental and control group of postpartum mothers. The design used in this study Experimental design. This study was conducted in a birthing home located at the heart of Davao City with an eighteen (18) bed capacity. The participants of the study were 30 postpartum mothers who just delivered a single term infant that was divided into two groups, the experimental and control group. The subject of the study was taken trough a Purposive sampling wherein they were assigned randomly to the experimental and control group, and proper matching of participants in both groups will be observed in terms of their age, body mass index, and parity. The statistical treatment used in the study was the mean and the t-test for a paired sample. The Four-Hour Test by the researchers Hale, T., Hartmann, P., Lai, C., and their colleagues were used to evaluate the close approximation of the participant’s breastmilk production in 24 hours. The findings of the study revealed that the milk production of mothers in the experimental group shows that they produce a mean amount of 95.13 ml on the first day, 270.45 ml on the second day, 546.83 ml on the third day and 748.58 ml on the fourth day postpartum wherein in all were interpreted as above the average milk production. Meanwhile, in the control group, mothers’ milk production on the second day postpartum is above the average milk production with a mean of 46.02 ml, however, on the first, third and fourth day postpartum they produce a mean of 14.50 ml, 255.72ml and 346.44 ml of milk consequently which were all interpreted as below the average milk production. Nevertheless, in the test significance, it garnered a t-value of -4.516 with a p-value of 0.006 on day one indicating that there is a significant difference in the production of milk between the two groups on the first day. Similarly, the following days, days 2, 3, and 4 also revealed t-values of -3.577, -3.364, and -3.788 with p-values of 0.016, 0.02, and 0.013, respectively. Thus, it was concluded that early breast hand pumping at least after one and a half hours postpartum could help mothers increase their breastmilk production above the average. Recommendations on the improvement and dissemination of the use of early breast hand pumping after delivery were given.

ItemInitiating intravenous fluids a teaching-learning process(School of Nursing, Ateneo de Davao University, 2005-02) Nolasco, Liz Modesta GSummary: Initiating intravenous fluids is widely practiced not just in the hospital setting but also in home health care. Its role in the medical world is vital in saving lives, nurturing individuals, and promoting a healthy environment. In this book, we were introduced to the different devices, its parts and importance in the therapy process. It has given us the options on how to care for the patient and what steps promote comfort while reducing labor and material cost. It also increased our level of awareness as a clinician in delivering quality service and optimum health care. In response to the changes on the Philippine Nursing Act brought about by RA 9173 expectingregistered nurses to be equipped with the knowledge and skills in initiating intravenous fluids, all nurses should be properly trained. It will be advantageous if nursing students can give focus on the topic and enhance skills by doing return demonstration on the initiation of intravenous insertion and access. For the practitioners, it may come naturally and simply because of familiarity. For the patient, this is a basis for fear and anxiety and for the support group, a costly need for health imrovement. For students, this is a subject that is essential to their growth and career path. For the teacher, it is an important topic that needs to be delivered in such a way that it creates an impact to yield a productive ooutput in lifesaving situations. Perceptions may change, their importance to an individual may vary but all have to be onsidered. Initiating intravenous fluids is a complex process that needs to adapt to different circumstances. Clinical importance has been seriously considered in the construction of this book along with the teaching-learning process. This is so because I believe that all knowledge, skills or attitude is transferred. In the course of our lifetime from the moment we set foot in this world everything is taught and acquired.
