ItemA Case presentation on normal spontaneous vaginal delivery(School of Nursing, Ateneo de Davao University, 2020) Albores, Kenneth Claire ; Alparito, Eloisa Mae ; Balao,Alexandra ; Cabalida, Christel Rose ; Cadorna, Solia Andrea ; De Peralta, Inigo Carlos ; Emborgo, Franco AngeloINTRODUCTION : Birth, the start of life anew, the continuation of a generation, the start of something new, not just for the baby, not just for the mother but for everyone in the family and everyone dear to them. They say birth is both the most painful and most amazing thing a mother could ever experience. It's the most painful experience because some women prefer delivering their baby naturally, and it's the most amazing feeling because it is like receiving a badge of honor for going through immense pain and for being committed to whole process of pregnancy from conception to birth. Being pregnant is no easy task; your body goes through different changes and it's not just the physical aspect but it's you whole being. This means you go through changes physically, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually, and that's not just for the first month but for the whole nine month of pregnancy. That is why when you and your partner do decide to get pregnant, you make sure that you are ready in all aspects, that you are committed to parenthood and when the time comes for the birth of the child, you are 100% sure that this is what you want and there are no holdbacks whatsoever. They say ideal age for a woman to get pregnant is in her twenties. Biology says that it is in these years that a woman's body is ready and that a woman's fertility is at its peak. That being said, pregnancy at any age has its advantage and disadvantages. Advantages of getting pregnant in the ideal age group are: (1) Young woman's eggs are less likely than an older woman's to have genetic abnormalities and other birth defects. (2) Risk for miscarriage is far lower as well. (3) Women in their twenties are at lower risk of health complication, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and gynecological problems. (4) Younger woman are also less likely to have premature babies than women older than 35. (Matthiessan,2014).With advantages comes disadvantages. Here are some disadvantages of getting pregnant at a young age: (1) it is in your twenties that you may still be figuring out a career path and establishing yourself. (2) it may not be financially optimal because many younger clients still have a lot of debt. (3) Younger women or couples also don't have the enough life experience to declare themselves to be ready. (4) It requires complete sacrifice and patience and not many young couples are prepared for such change. (Matthiessen, 2014).

ItemA divergent perspective analysis on the characteristics of an excellent nurse teacher using Q methodology(Philippine Journal of Nursing, 2009) Biag, AlThe objective of this study was to describe the divergent perspectives on the characteristics of an excellent nurse teacher among undergraduate nursing students. Q methodology was used as a method and a tool to examine the diversity of responses regarding what constitutes excellent teaching in nursing. Thirty-five (35) undergraduate nursing students ranked each item in a set of 41 statements (Q sample) using a 9-point scale that ranges from -4 (most uncharacteristic) to +4 (most characteristic). The Q statement rankings generated by the participants were factor analyzed using the centroid method and varimax rotation. The analysis yielded five factors representing viewpoints of five clusters of undergraduate nursing students. Each of these groups identified an excellent nurse teacher as someone with professional treatment to learning and the learner, efficient organization and management of learning, high regard to growth and expansion of knowledge, reasonable evaluation practices, and encouraging demeanor towards students. The five viewpoints about an excellent nurse teacher described a nomenclature of ideas that is distinct yet related to the usual ideas about good teaching in nursing.

ItemAGING WITH CHOICE: PREFERENCES FOR A RETIREMENT HOME OF AN ELDERLY CLIENT(Ateneo de Davao University, 2020-04) Casintahan, Lilibeth BuagasThis study was conducted to identify the Client’s Preferences for a Retirement Home in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines. There were six (6) identified attributes for a retirement home after the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) from the selected five (5) clients from a sample retirement home at Co Su Gian, Home for the Aged, Davao City, Philippines. The following six (6) attributes were as follows; location, cost per month, nurse-patient relationship, facilities, food, and nurse/caregiver. Conjoint Analysis method was used to identify the relative importance and the utility values of each attribute. The study utilizes both the descriptive and causal methods of research. The three hundred thirty-four (334) respondents of the study were the government and private officials and employees of Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Philippines, who were 50 years old and over. The respondents for the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were selected through a purposive sampling technique, and a stratified sampling technique was used for the primary survey, using Slovin’s formula. The design used was a survey method, with twenty (20) hypothetical designs for retirement homes generated with the use of Conjoint Analysis Statistical Software. The findings had shown that all six (6) attributes have contributed to the total utility for retirement homes. And at the aggregate levels, cost per month was the most important, and the location was the least important. The study revealed that participant one would accept any location for a retirement home as long as the cost per month is affordable. Whereas participants number two (2), four (4) and five (5), were willing to pay whatever the cost per month was for as long as the professional nurse was the one who will care and assist them in their daily care. While participant number three (3), was not particular with food as long as the facilities were excellent. However, the result of the simulation of the study that the utility value of the retirement home will lower down when the cost per month of the retirement home from 25, 000 pesos, which was the most preferred, to 50, 000 pesos. And by changing the level of location, which was the least important, to close to family, will also decrease the total utility of the retirement homes. The results explained that although the overall result cost per month was the most important attribute and the location was the least important, but it was important to capture the preferences of the individual respondents. The study has shown that there was a significant difference in the overall result of the Clients’ Preferences for Retirement Home when group according to educational attainment. The preferences of those with masters and doctorate degrees had shown significantly higher than those who had just attended college or graduated in high school. And there was no significant difference in the Clients’ Preferences for Retirement Homes when respondents were grouped according to age, sex, religion, marital status, monthly income, living, and health condition.

ItemAteneo college admission test and nursing aptitude test as predictors in the capping and pinning grade requirement of level II student nurses batch 2006-2007(School of Nursing, Ateneo de Davao University, 2006-10) Barcoma, Brian C ; Bario, Lalaine Joy M ; Bernardo, Maria Theresa B ; Caputan, Cheryl Ann F ; Chiongaon, Richelle A ; Chu, Cherry Anne CThis study was based on the linear regressional analysis of the Ateneo Admission College Test (ACAT), Nursing Aptitude Test (NAT) and the cumulative Weighted Percentage Average (WPA) from the respondent's first year first semester, second semester, and summer of 2006. There were 130 respondents selected, all of whom were level II Bachelor Science in Nursing students of the Ateneo de Davao University school year 2006-2007. With the use of pearson-product moment correlation, the researchers were able to determine if there is a significant relationship between the independent variables: ACAT and NAT to the dependent variable, which is the capping and pinning grade requirement as the determinant factor used in predicting the probability to qualify for the capping and pinning. Results showed that the relationship of ACAT to the capping and pinning grade requirement had a P-value of 0.728, which was greater than the level of significance of 0.05. Applying the basis on accepting and rejecting the null hypothesis this finding indicates that the null hypothesis was accepted. On the other hand, the relationship of NAT to the capping and pinning grade requirement has a P-value of 0.001, which was less than the level of significance of 0.05. The null hypothesis is rejected stating that there is no significant relationship between the two variables. However, upon using linear regression analysis, the findings led to the conclusion that there was no significant functional relationship between the two independent variables: ACAT and NAT since both could only explain 10.5% of the total variation as predictors in the capping and pinning grade reguirement. Therefore, the model used was not fit for predicting the capping and pinning result.
